South Garbage is the peakier left just to the south of (you guessed it) North Garbage. The quite long paddle out to either break is generally more a test of endurance than wave savvy or guttural fortitude, even on big days, thanks to the seemingly omnipresent rip that forms where the steep steps below the junction of Sunset Cliffs Boulevard and Ladera Street meet the grand Pacific. Just wait for a lull on entry and don't exit on a big day/high tide combination unless you don't mind getting slammed into the cliffs.

High performance surfing here will get you respect, dropping in... err not so much. Handles all westerlies to 12'+. For advanced surfers of all board types.
