There is a large bay with a beach called Playa de las Americas on the southwest corner of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, and the break known as La Izquierda (Spanish Left) is a left point break that wraps around a rocky shelf into the bay, luring surfers along a shallow bottom full of kinds of sharp things for those who fall in the wrong place or fail to kick out in a timely fashion.

Rumors of rampant localism are likely fueled by those who just don't have the chops to make the wave safely, particularly if this is causing issues for others in the process. It is strongly suggested to make an effort to fit in, speak a little Spanish (or a lot), and generally give everyone some space and wait your turn. Do so, and you will be rewarded with some amazingly quick and gratifying tube rides on one of the area's signature waves.
