Wow, Tourmo was pretty unspectacular today, to say the least. The same south wind that was here yesterday was back with a vengeance, blowing a little harder from the get-go and not letting up mid-morning like it did yesterday.
It was lumpy, shifty, shitty, mushy closeouts. The tide peaked at 8:04, but only to 4.11 feet. Any higher and it would have been extra comedy with backwash mixed in to the stew.
As it was, the only saving grace (besides the warm water) was that there was enough ground swell in the mix that occasionally something with a little bit of shape would force its way through. But even these were a gamble, because their shape was almost completely dependent on the constant chop across the surface. Sometimes all of this chop would come together like puzzle pieces to form a nice pocket and a shoulder, and this could result in a decently long ride. Find yourself in the wrong part of the wave with puzzle pieces scattered all over the place, and anything goes. I probably got 15 waves, and I managed to only lose my board once, and then only for a short sprint to grab it before the next wave did - all of which I consider a minor victory.
